Laurie Doctor Artwork
Painting & Writing in Pieces with Laurie Doctor
I have just begun work on a collaborative project called Messages Lost in Time. I find scraps of paper in my studio from years ago where I have scrawled: speechless mute melliflerous motet or olive oil, pepper, bread and onions. Other papers have bits of color or stitching, perhaps a coffee ring. In this class we will begin with scraps we have gathered, and perhaps exchanged. These bits and pieces will be the beginning of finding a thread that connects the writing and painting that we do. We will use collage, drawing, painting and writing techniques. Color studies, composition and writing techniques will be part of the exploration. Inspiration will come from music and poetry in a contemplative atmosphere.

samples of her work can be seen at: http://lauriedoctor.com/

Exercises will foster quality of line, seeing with the eyes of an artist, and doing work that is particular to each student. Each student will be responsible for choosing a subject that they return to.

Cost: $170 for non-members; $150 for members
Payment due April 20, 2013

A weekend workshop sponsored by the Mysticalligraphers

Instructor: Carol Pallesen from Nevada

Creating art cards by hand is an exciting and enjoyable experience. Using hot wax on paper, we will draw lines and shapes which will later be brightly colored with dyes. The first day, we will prepare Arches Text laid paper and then apply our wax designs. In addition, a monoline alphabet suitable to use on the cards will be presented. The second day, we will iron out the wax, prepare paper for the inside, sew in these papers, write on the cards, and assemble the cards with the envelopes. There will be a $25-$30 materials fee for Arches Text laid paper, envelopes , inserts, wax, dyes, and tjanting tools. Carol will collect this fee at the workshop.
